Thailand has kicked off the Phuket Sandbox model starting on 1st July 2021 as a pilot for “quarantine-free” destination for fully vaccinated travelers

Thailand has kicked off the Phuket Sandbox model starting on 1st July 2021 as a pilot for “quarantine-free” destination for fully vaccinated travelers. Below are some key details:

Pre-arrival measures: Travelers should not be coming from high-risk areas at least 14 days before their arrival. Only countries/territories approved by the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) are allowed to enter Thailand (the full list of the countries can be found via this link). Before arrival, passengers must have five documents:

  1. a certificate of entry (COE)
  2. a medical certificate shows RT-PCR negative test result (no more than 72 hours before departure),
  3. a copy of COVID-19 insurance with coverage at least US$100,000
  4. a copy of the payment confirmation for accommodation for at least 14 nights stay and RT-PCR tests, and
  5. COVID-19 vaccination certificate issued at least 14 days before departure (for vaccines that are approved by the Thai Ministry of Public Health or the World Health Organisation). Below are the list of those vaccines:
    • Coronavac (Sinovac Biotech Ltd.)
    • AstraZeneca
    • AstraZeneca (SK Bioscience – Korea)
    • AstraZeneca (Siam Bioscience – Thailand)
    • Pfizer BioNTech
    • COVISHIELD (Serum Institute of India)
    • Janssen (single dose)
    • Modena
    • COVILO (Sinopharm)

Arrival measures: Travelers must take the first test upon arrival and wait for the results in their accommodation. Travelers that stay less than seven days must take another test on day 6 or 7. Travelers who stay between 10-14 days must take the second test on day 6 or 7 and the third test on day 12 or 13. Travelers can travel anywhere in Phuket if they are tested negative. Travelers will be transferred to specified healthcare facilities if they are tested positive. Passengers will be allowed to travel to other destinations in Thailand after they stay in Phuket for 14 days.
