Yes, China has been using the “health codes” since Dec 2020 as measure to contain COVID-19, initially only COVID-19 negative test based. Now this pass code contains immunity status by presenting vaccination status or COVID-19 test results. China has established a nationwide system of digital “health codes”, scoring citizens on whether they pose a potential coronavirus threat based around their travel history and proximity to people with the virus.

Users have to scan a QR code to get a “green” pass in the health app, a common practice at most offices, restaurants, shopping malls, sports centres and transport stations.

Non-Chinese citizens required to obtain a QR code marked “HDC” (Health Declaration Code) in order to board flights to China. foreign passengers can apply for the code by logging on to a designated website via computers or smart phones. To receive the code they need to submit personal information; make a declaration of their health status; and upload negative COVID-19 test certificates, passports, itinerary, and other required documents. “Foreign passengers must present the electronic or printed code, and follow the procedures for inspection by relevant airlines during boarding,”. The Chinese version of the Internation Travel Health Certificate shows the holder’s nucleic acid, serim IgG antibody test results, and vaccination status. The health certificate contains an encrypted QR code for the relevant departments of various countries to verify and read personal information.

Entry protocol

All inbound passengers are required to quarantine for at least 14 days upon arrival. Testing upon arrival and for release from quarantine may include blood tests, as well as oral, nasal, and anal swab tests.
